Teal Linde’s Picks: From Blue Skies to Blue Owl — Where the Smart Money’s Going
Teal Linde Reveals Three Market Movers as Retail Investors Drive the 2025 Recovery

Teal Linde, the seasoned manager of the Linde Equity Fund, has once again stepped into the spotlight with his latest stock picks. Known for his keen market insights and strategic investments, Linde's focus remains firmly planted on North American mid and large cap stocks. As the market continues to ride the wave of retail investor enthusiasm, Linde’s top picks provide a telling glimpse into the stocks he believes are primed for growth amid the current volatility.
Linde’s market outlook is rooted in the classic interplay between insider buying and retail investor sentiment. Historically, corporate insiders have been regarded as the canaries in the coal mine, buying shares when they see value and selling when they believe stocks are overpriced. When insiders start buying, it often signals that the market has hit a temporary low. Conversely, when insiders are selling or staying on the sidelines during a rally, it may suggest that the surge is speculative and unsustainable. In recent months, the latter has been the case. As retail investors have poured money back into the market after a tariff-induced selloff, insiders have largely held back. This cautionary stance from insiders casts a shadow over the market’s recent recovery, suggesting that valuations may still be too high to warrant their personal capital.
Air Canada: Betting on a Turnaround
Air Canada (AC TSX) emerges as a standout in Linde’s portfolio. The airline giant is trading at a substantial discount to its historical valuation, despite demonstrating considerable operational improvement compared to the tumultuous years of the COVID-19 pandemic. Back in November 2024, Air Canada announced a share buyback plan, aiming to repurchase up to 35,783,842 shares – nearly 10 per cent of its outstanding shares. Within the first three months of the program, the company had already snapped up 90 per cent of the allotted shares.
Insiders, too, have shown their confidence, with several top executives buying shares in February at around $17. On March 3, Air Canada’s board granted a substantial number of stock options to management, set at a strike price of $17.03. Fast forward to May 8, and Air Canada unveiled a substantial issuer bid, committing up to $500 million to repurchase shares. For Linde, the airline represents a compelling turnaround story, with its current trading price offering a potential 35 per cent upside as it recovers toward its pre-selloff levels.
Blue Owl Capital: Riding the Private Credit Wave
Blue Owl Capital (OWL NYSE) has captured Linde’s attention as a dominant player in the private credit space. The firm stands at the intersection of three major investment trends: the rise of private credit, the growing prominence of sale and leaseback transactions, and the democratization of alternative investments.
Blue Owl’s private credit segment, in particular, is well-positioned to benefit from a significant shift in institutional asset allocation. Currently, institutional investors allocate approximately four to five per cent of their assets to private credit. Industry analysts predict this figure could double in the next five years, largely at the expense of private equity, which has lost some of its shine due to liquidity concerns and longer investment horizons.
Blue Owl’s robust 4.8 per cent dividend yield, coupled with a double-digit earnings growth profile, makes it a compelling choice for investors seeking both income and capital appreciation. Trading at 23 times its projected 2025 earnings, Blue Owl’s valuation is not without its risks, but Linde is betting that its exposure to secular growth trends will more than justify its current multiple.
Pinterest: A Growth Story with Room to Expand
Pinterest (PINS NASD), the third pick in Linde’s lineup, presents a classic growth-at-a-reasonable-price opportunity. The social media platform, long known for its visual search and discovery features, has been undergoing a transformation under new management.
With revenue growing at a 14 per cent annual clip and the stock trading at less than 19 times its projected 2025 earnings, Pinterest offers both growth potential and relative value. The company’s 500 million-plus user base is predominantly female, with Gen Z representing the fastest-growing segment.
Pinterest’s revenue generation strategy hinges on increasing its average revenue per user (ARPU), which currently stands at $9 in North America but lags significantly in other regions. With 80 per cent of its users located outside the U.S. and Canada, Pinterest has a vast runway for monetization in Europe and emerging markets. Furthermore, Pinterest’s AI and machine learning initiatives are expected to drive higher user engagement and ad load, setting the stage for further revenue growth.
Conclusion: A Balanced Approach Amid Uncertainty
Linde’s top picks reflect a nuanced approach to the current market landscape. While retail investors have driven much of the recent rally, Linde’s focus remains on companies with solid fundamentals and insider conviction. Air Canada, Blue Owl, and Pinterest each present unique value propositions, from turnaround stories and dividend growth to untapped international markets. For investors seeking to navigate the uncertain waters of 2025, Linde’s picks offer a blend of growth, income, and recovery potential.
