Gold Hits Record Highs — So Why Are Junior Developers Still Undervalued?
Disseminated on behalf of Axcap Ventures Inc

Gold is currently demonstrating a strong upward trend, supported by a range of macroeconomic and geopolitical factors.
After years of steady upward pressure, gold has recently surpassed its previous all-time highs, trading above $3,400 per ounce. 1 This move has been supported by a combination of persistent inflation, rising geopolitical tensions, record levels of sovereign debt, and continued accumulation of gold reserves by central banks. Many analysts view these factors as part of a broader, more sustained trend rather than a temporary spike.
Over the past 12 months, gold has returned approximately +43% 2, outperforming most major asset classes—underscoring the strength of the underlying macroeconomic drivers.
Despite this surge in the spot price, some valuations in the gold mining sector—particularly among junior developers and explorers—have not kept pace. Several companies in this segment continue to trade at significant discounts relative to historical norms, highlighting a widening disconnect between physical gold prices and equity valuations.
This divergence may signal a potential opportunity for investors focused on gold equities. Among the companies in this space, Axcap Ventures (OTC: GARLF | CSE: AXCP) has positioned itself with a strategy that targets undervalued gold assets across North America, aiming to benefit from this evolving market dynamic.
A Market Dislocation Creating Strategic Openings
Historically, rising gold prices have been accompanied by outsized gains in junior exploration and development equities. In previous cycles, a 20% increase in the price of gold has often translated into significantly higher returns for well-positioned junior miners, reflecting their inherent leverage to the commodity.
However, after several years of sector underperformance and limited access to capital, many junior mining companies continue to face challenges related to liquidity, market visibility, and financing. According to Q1 2024 data, only 65 of the 2,600 publicly traded mining companies in Canada averaged more than $100,000 3 in daily trading volume—despite gold trading near record levels.
This lack of market participation has created a notable disconnect. In some cases, large, technically de-risked gold deposits with extensive historical investment are trading at valuations well below their historical norms.
For well-capitalized and experienced teams, this dislocation may present a strategic opportunity. Axcap Ventures (OTC: GARLF | CSE: AXCP) is focused on this specific market niche, aiming to acquire, develop, and ultimately unlock value from underappreciated gold assets in North America.
Axcap’s Strategic Approach to Value Creation
Axcap Ventures has adopted a clear and disciplined strategy designed to unlock value in the current gold market environment. The company focuses on acquiring existing gold deposits at valuations below US$5 per ounce in the ground. Following acquisition, the strategy involves targeted drilling programs aimed at expanding and upgrading the resource base. The final step in the model involves seeking an exit through a sale or spinout, with the objective of realizing a re-rating closer to US$40–$80 per ounce, in line with recent industry transactions.
This approach offers potential for significant value creation, even before accounting for any upside from additional resource growth through exploration.
Importantly, the projects already secured by Axcap are not early-stage concepts or speculative greenfields. They are advanced-stage gold assets located in established, geologically proven mining jurisdictions across North America.
Converse Project (Nevada):
Converse Project (Nevada): Boasting 5.57 million ounces of Measured & Indicated (M&I) gold resources, this is the largest gold deposit in Nevada not owned by a major. A 5,000-meter drill program, launched in March 2025, targets deeper high-grade skarn systems, potentially unlocking significant value (Axcap Ventures Drill Program Announcement, March 25, 2025.) Located in the Battle Mountain Trend, Converse offers exploration upside akin to the 50-million-ounce Goldstrike deposit.
In June 2025, Axcap released the first drill results from its maiden program at Converse — and they were immediately encouraging. Hole CV25-001C not only confirmed modeled near-surface mineralization but also revealed a potentially new, higher-grade zone at depth: 10.85 meters grading 5.45 g/t gold, starting at 666.4 meters. (11) This marks a clear validation of Axcap’s thesis — that prior operators had overlooked deeper, higher-grade structures beneath the existing 5.5Moz resource. Additional assays, including those targeting mid-plate rocks below the Golconda Thrust, are pending and could further expand the scale and grade profile of the deposit.
Rattlesnake Hills (Wyoming):
Rattlesnake Hills (Wyoming): With 0.61 million ounces M&I and 0.43 million ounces Inferred, this project benefits from over 100,000 meters of historical drilling and a geological profile similar to the 20-million-ounce Cripple Creek mine. A maiden resource estimate in October 2024 highlighted its district-scale potential (Axcap Ventures Maiden Resource Announcement, October 2024.)
Newton Project (British Columbia):
Newton Project (British Columbia): Acquired in May 2025 for CAD $2.6 million, this project hosts 0.84 million ounces of Inferred gold in a bulk-tonnage system, comparable to the massive Blackwater deposit (Axcap Newton Acquisition, May 26, 2025.) The acquisition, subject to regulatory approvals including CSE approval, strengthens Axcap’s portfolio in a proven Canadian mining belt.
These assets, acquired at a fraction of historical norms, position Axcap to potentially capitalize on a potential market re-rating as gold prices continue to climb.
Valuation Context Based on Recent Peer Comparisons
With nearly 8 million ounces of gold(~6.2Moz M&I and ~1.7Moz Inf) secured across multiple Tier-1 jurisdictions, Axcap Ventures continues to trade at a valuation significantly below industry benchmarks.
According to a recent independent analysis by SmallCapInvestor, a third-party source not engaged by this publication for promotional purposes, the average enterprise value per ounce (EV/oz) among 25 publicly listed gold developers was approximately $107.78, with several peers trading well above $200/oz.

By comparison, Axcap Ventures is currently valued at just $4.20/oz, representing the lowest figure in the peer group analyzed—over 95% below the average. Even among early-stage junior developers, few companies trade below $30/oz, and none in the sample offer the same combination of scale, technical leadership, and exposure to top-tier mining jurisdictions. This wide valuation gap may point to a meaningful opportunity for investors focused on early-stage gold equities.
Axcap’s Strategic Focus on Scale and Market Visibility
In contrast to the traditional approach taken by many early-stage mining companies, Axcap Ventures has adopted a strategy that places equal emphasis on exploration and capital markets presence. The company has stated its intention to invest meaningfully in marketing, liquidity initiatives, and potential index inclusion efforts, recognizing that access to capital is critical for sustained growth and value creation.
Greater liquidity in public markets can enhance financing flexibility, which in turn enables more consistent exploration activity. In the mining sector, drilling remains one of the most effective tools for resource expansion and revaluation.
Axcap’s leadership has emphasized building a platform that is structured to support ongoing capital raising and aggressive exploration programs. This approach reflects models seen in other capital markets, such as Australia’s ASX, where junior mining companies often prioritize active trading volumes and broad shareholder engagement to support long-term development objectives.
Timing Is Critical — Strategic Amid Reserve Depletion
One of the most important forces driving the opportunity is simple: Major gold producers are running out of ore.
A significant structural trend impacting the gold sector today is the declining reserve base among major producers. Following years of underinvestment in exploration, many of the world’s largest gold mining companies are now contending with reduced reserves and projected declines in future production.
At the same time, these companies are operating with strengthened balance sheets. In 2024, firms such as AngloGold Ashanti and Agnico Eagle reported record levels of free cash flow, placing them in a strong financial position as they assess options for replenishing their development pipelines. (14, 15)
In this context, the combination of elevated gold prices, falling reserves, and strong cash positions has led some analysts to anticipate increased acquisition activity within the sector.
Should this trend continue, advanced-stage projects with established resources—particularly those located in Tier-1 jurisdictions—may become attractive to larger producers. The types of assets currently held by Axcap Ventures fall within this category, with scale and technical advancement that may align with the strategic needs of majors seeking to bolster future production.
“Put simply: Cash-rich majors + depleting reserves + surging gold prices = acquisition potential.”
A Team Built for Success
Axcap’s leadership is a key differentiator. The team includes industry veterans with a track record of building billion-dollar mining companies:
- Blake McLaughlin, P.Geo: Former Chief Geologist at Argonaut Gold, leading exploration efforts and a Qualified Person under NI 43-101 Axcap Corporate Presentation, April 2025.
- Tyron Breytenbach: Ex-SVP at Aris Mining and top mining analyst at Cormark Securities.
- Mario Vetro: Co-founder of K92 Mining, a C$2 billion success story, and current Axcap director.
- Luis Zapata: Former CEO of Vista Gold Peru and Canaccord Genuity LatAm head.
With over $1 billion collectively raised in their careers and recent insider buying exceeding $1 million, this team demonstrates strong conviction in Axcap’s vision (Axcap Corporate Presentation, April 2025.) Their expertise in geology, capital markets, and project development provides the firepower to execute on ambitious goals.
More importantly, Axcap’s leadership has formalized its long-term alignment with shareholders through a newly implemented Minimum Share Ownership Policy. Since January 2025, insiders have collectively acquired over 2.4 million shares in the open market, representing an investment of more than $400,000.(10) Under the new policy, members of the board and senior executives are required to maintain equity ownership levels equivalent to at least two times their base salary, including both direct holdings and unvested share units.
As Co-Founder Mario Vetro noted, “We believe that Converse is a rare asset and undervalued relative to peers, and we are increasing our exposure to this opportunity. As a team, we intend to unlock this value for ourselves and fellow shareholders by derisking what is already the largest undeveloped gold deposit in Nevada.”
Long-Term Strategy: Targeting Multi-Million Ounce Scale
Axcap Ventures has articulated a longer-term strategy focused on significantly increasing its resource base. The company’s stated objective is to scale to between 10 and 20 million ounces of gold resources over the next one to three years through a combination of acquisitions and organic growth.
Achieving this level of scale would place Axcap among the largest holders of undeveloped gold resources in North America. Historically, companies that have successfully executed similar strategies—such as Detour Gold and Osisko Mining—have demonstrated the potential for substantial valuation growth, largely driven by aggressive exploration and strategic consolidation.
Axcap’s current approach aligns with this model, combining advanced-stage project acquisition with a focus on resource expansion. While outcomes depend on a range of external and operational factors, the company’s roadmap reflects a method that has previously generated significant value in comparable market environments.
Shareholder Alignment and Lockup
In late May 2025, Axcap announced a voluntary lockup agreement covering over 96 million shares, representing 57% of the stock issued in its 2024 $0.06 private placement. This move, driven by core shareholders and insiders, reinforces long-term alignment and signals high conviction in the company’s direction.
Under the agreement, shares are subject to an extended release schedule, limiting liquidity over the next 24 months. This lockup coincides with the launch of Axcap’s first major marketing and awareness campaign, designed to improve visibility and increase trading volumes.
As Co-Founder Mario Vetro stated, “This is a testament to our innovative model and the quality of our shareholder group.” Vetro also reaffirmed insider support, noting continued buying activity and highlighting that Axcap still trades at just $5 per ounce of gold — far below the industry average.9
Conclusion: A Market Dislocation with Strategic Implications
Gold prices have recently reached all-time highs, while many major producers maintain strong financial positions but face ongoing reserve depletion. Meanwhile, a number of junior developers continue to trade at valuations that appear more aligned with a lower gold price environment, highlighting a potential disconnect between commodity fundamentals and equity market behavior.
Axcap Ventures (OTC: GARLF | CSE: AXCP) has assembled a portfolio of projects totaling nearly 8 million ounces of gold in established North American jurisdictions. Backed by a team with a track record of value creation in the mining sector, the company has outlined a strategy centered on disciplined acquisition, aggressive drilling, and enhanced market visibility.
While all investments carry risk and outcomes depend on numerous variables, Axcap’s positioning and approach may offer exposure to a segment of the market that has yet to fully reflect current gold price dynamics.
