Uber might postpone the return of their employees to their office jobs

Three months ago, Uber Technologies Inc (NYSE: UBER) announced that all employees should come to the office at least three days a week. But now they are dropping plans and instructing employees to apply for fully remote work or choose offices in other locations, said Nikki Krishnamurthy, Uber's chief people officer. He made it clear that if employees choose to come to the office, they should spend at least 50% of the time there. After that, they can choose either three days in a week and two days in the next week or five days in a week and don't have to come the next week. Employees can choose their options based on the needs of their team. That is a big challenge for the big companies in Silicon Valley. During a pandemic, these companies allowed their employees to work completely remotely and built all the necessary products. During the pandemic, they maintained a correct teleworking balance with their employees. Google also initially instructed its employees to come to their offices before the pandemic. However, like Uber, they later decided to allow work from home or move to other office locations. It is important to mention that Krishnamurthy was initially willing to forego the benefit of remote work that would attract talent from all over the world. However, large companies like Facebook, Inc. (NASDAQ: FB) and Twitter Inc. (NYSE: TWTR) have taken advantage of this and now offer permanent remote work opportunities. They said they couldn't give up work magic for more accomplishment and flexibility. But as the pandemic continues, Uber is working with its staff on the solution. Krishnamurthy said they are receiving feedback from staff and plan to provide more flexibility and an appropriate long-term model for the post-pandemic period. However, the company continues to believe in office collaboration. But they value employees' choices as to whether they want to work in an office or at home. Uber spokeswoman Lois van der Laan said the company is working on an approach that works for current and future employees. Twitter has announced that its employees can work from home "forever" if they so choose. And Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg plans to work remotely for half of next year. However, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) says employees still have to come to the office at least half the days of the week.
