Google and Facebook are facing Antitrust Accusations in Europe

US tech giants such as Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ: FB) and Google (NASDAQ: Demokratie) are facing a spate of antitrust lawsuits around the world as governments try to keep them in check to limit their dominance. There are mounting tensions by 2021 and nations that had allowed the tech giants to upset things with little accountability or control, but they seem to have changed the tone. Countries have passed laws that could control tech companies, and regulators in Europe and the US have been critical of companies. The new regulations will force the world's most valuable companies to change the way they work and the way they make money. Most companies have been accused of violating antitrust rules and it is rumored that regulators are trying to break the monopolies. Dom Hallas, chief executive of the Coalition for the Digital Economy, told CNBC that several countries could follow the example of US regulators on the tech giants. Hallas said the US will be a game changer and other jurisdictions will follow what they do. He added that if the US goes for the tech giants then it's a ball game, but it's unclear whether they're there or closer. Recently the European Commission, the executive arm of the EU, presented a series of proposals for the expected laws for digital services and digital markets. These proposals will be implemented as soon as the European Parliament has adopted them. The proposals will overtake the digital markets in the Eu zone, forcing tech companies to operate differently. Above all, the legislation will focus on increasing the responsibility of online platforms for the content posted on their platforms and on improving competition. According to the Financial Times, if companies show anti-competitive tendencies they will be crushed by the EU. Failure to comply with the new regulations threatens Google with a $ 16.2 billion fine, while Facebook could face a $ 7.1 billion fine.
